Inspired by a morning walk with Jess Mantell (Edoble.com) and Jared Braiterman (Tokogreenspace.com) I spent a couple of hours harvesting Tokyo poppy seeds. As Jess says, “as if the tiny seeds (about 1/5 the size of poppy seeds from the store) weren’t cute enough, the natural design of the pod as a little shaker is also adorable, and fascinating”.
While she sprinkles them on bagels, and the neighbourhood kids devour them in handfuls (after an impromptu lesson on the walk to school (and checking safety)), I’ve been making seed-laden loaves – crunchy and nutty…. the slogan of the ‘edible city’ doesn’t go far enough. I advocate the ‘delicious city‘, for sure.
